Putting the show, back in show horse.
I talked with our Sunday horse show sponsor’s trainer, Wes Chappell of Drag-N-Fly Ranch this weekend. Nice guy. Really sounds like he enjoys what he does for a living and whom he does it for.
He was at the Medford Quarter Horse show and we got on the topic of horse shows and what kinds of shows Drag-N-Fly Ranch gets excited about and what draws them to these events. As competitors they get excited about the AQHA Shows and prefer to compete at these venues because it gives them the chance to show their product ( horses ) in the situations that their program is designed to excel at. The all around, shall we say working horse. Possibly horses of an era that most of you remember from your youth days. Horses that could show in cow classes in the morning, halter at noon and pleasure classes in the evening and be winners in all of them. Their names sake stallion Drag-n-Fly being a classic example of the level of quality and versatility that they strive for, ultra competitive at everything he does. Versatility, there is a word that we hardly associate with the working horse anymore. I think the new key word is, specialized. That being said both of these situations have their place in the horse world because when it comes down to it there both about striving for excellence. I get the feeling that Drag-n-Fly Ranch and everyone involved in that fine operation is striving for excellence today and into the future with an eye towards the big picture.
This is more than clear to me and I hope others by the great generosity that the owners show not only to the largest of Equestrian organizations outside there area, but to the smaller groups within there area.
NWRCHA cannot thank these folks enough for there generous support of our and now there own NRCHA affiliate as we try and create a great futurity, derby and horse show in the tradition of the great horse shows of the Pacific Northwest of a different era, and we wish them the best of luck and continued success bringing back the great versatile horse of the same great time.
Peanuts,
Reiny Day Quarter Horses. Home of Shining Topsail and Colleen S Aufiero. As long as I can
remember Colleen and her great stud have been a part of the northwest Cow horse and reining world.
I don’t believe I have ever met the stud, but I would know him in an instant should I . He has left his mark on our small area as well as the world with his show record. I did not get a chance to talk directly with Colleen before this article as she was busy with work so I am opting to wing it. Colleen has always been a great supporter of the NWRCHA, always a valued sponsor and although not a competitor at our shows seems to enjoy the experience as much as anyone there, and we are happy to have her there.
Since moving her stallion to Duquette Quarter Horse in Hermiston Oregon and into the capable hands of Dave we did not see Colleen in town last year. Colleen came to town this year. In a big way.
Colleen Aufiero And Reiny Day Quarter Horse came to town and put their name on the NWRCH Derby and we couldn’t be any happier. We at NWRCHA and ORCHA would like Colleen to know that we will or have done everything in our power to make this a class show representative of a class lady, stallion and operation. We greatly appreciate her generous support and thank her for giving us the tools to grow and succeed as she has also done for all the fine young peanuts out in the show pen.
If you show them-----they will get hungry.
If you show them they will get hungry, and one of our most loyal and consistent corporate partners will feed them. NUTRENA feeds George Dawson,Terry Longmire and the crew once again perform for their company and NWRCHA as well as their products perform for our horses. NUTRENA is sponsoring our first horse show and the NUTRENA Practice Pen at the Futurity and Derby this year and NWRCHA would like to extend a special thank you to these folks not only did they reach into the wallet but they brought out the labor force as well. These people have become true friends of ours and we appreciate everything they do. The guys at the corporate offices of NUTRENA should take note, if the rest of their reps are performing as well as there northwest representatives are it will be almost impossible to improve on customer service and product quality. NUTRENA northwest crew is a top cabin operation and NUTRENA should be as proud to have them as part of there team as we are.
In the immortal words of my trainer, Dean McCann,
HAVE FUN, STAY ON!!!
